metaX, founded in 1999, is a German family business with two locations: Friedberg (Hessen) and Burgheim (Bavaria). At home and abroad we cooperate with renowned university and special clinics, research laboratories and competent business partners.
The company name is derived from the Greek word for metabolism: metabolismos (μεταβολισμος). The X stands for "with the eXception of". It refers to one of our specialties: our XPhe products. These are specially formulated amino acid mixtures designed for individuals with the metabolic disorder known as phenylketonuria (PKU). The XPhe amino acid mixtures contain all amino acids - with the exception ("X") of the amino acid phenylalanine!
